On Thursday 12 March, the City Council of Copenhagen gave their approval for the Little Mermaid's temporary exhibition in the Danish pavilion during Expo 2010 Shanghai. The famous Danish landmark is owned by the City of Copenhagen.

The Little Mermaid is thought to be one of the main attractions in the Danish Expo pavilion, and her voyage has attracted a great deal of international attention ever since the plans were announced.

The Little Mermaid's temporary change of address is part of a cultural exchange between Denmark and China. During the Mermaid’s absence, an original piece of art created by one of China’s most acknowledged artists will be exhibited at the Mermaid’s position in the Copenhagen Harbour.

The New Carlsberg Foundation, which is a national partner of the Danish Expo Shanghai project, is already working on securing an extraordinary art experience for Copenhageners and tourists while the Little Mermaid is in Shanghai. The parties expect to reveal the Chinese work of art within the next few months.
